How do you LIVE UNITED?

The uncertainty of the current economic condition and focus around the government support of the financial sector and the impact on our local economy is headline news everyday. Prior to the bailout and constant news of the deteriorating economic condition, we know citizens of Hastings have faced hardships and have turned to local service agencies that have supported our community for years.

Our work at United Way of Hastings is to support the safety net in Hastings. We also work to educate individuals and families to be proactive in effort to reduce their reliance on the safety net. We support Hastings Family Service and other basic needs agencies in our community. As a matter of fact, United Way of Hastings is the largest funding source to Hastings Family Service.

We work to be a more literate community through programs like Imagination Library, our partnership with ECFE and local early childcare providers. Hastings Reads is an effort to bring yet a higher level of literacy to the entire community. We hope to encourage a more thoughtful, literate community which hopefully brings about a better workforce and community as a whole.

United Way of Hastings along with most of the non-profit service organizations are faced with the economic stress of the current condition. This is no different than economic challenges faced by the Hastings business’ local government and schools; we are all doing more with less.

We face these challenges together. We rely on the generosity of the members of our community to maintain the safety net and continue our work to influence the condition for a better more self reliant community. Please consider the importance of your influence, and give what you can to influence the condition of every one of us.

Underneath everything we are, underneath everything we do, we are all people connected, interdependent, united. And when we reach out a hand to one, we influence the condition of all. That’s what it means to LIVE UNITED.
